While the Crowfoot surname may make you immediately think of Natives, it is also a very common English name, and means, literally, "crow foot". It was given to people with unusually shaped feet, or with a strange gait. It is also closely related to the name Crawford.

John Crowfoot
​1807 - 1884

John was born in England in 1807. In 1831, he married Hannah Rawson, and the two went on to raise three children in Leeds, England. John is listed as a flax dresser and a foreman in the census. He passed away in 1884.

John and Hannah's children:
  • Margaret Crowfoot, b. 1838, d. 1909
  • Benjamin Crowfoot, b. 1840
  • Hannah Crowfoot, b. 1844, d. 1884

Margaret Crowfoot
​1838 - 1909

Picture
Margaret was born in 1838 in Leeds, England, the first child of John and Hannah. In 1861, she married David Strachan, a Scottish tailor, and the two settled in Leeds, raising seven children there. Margaret passed away in 1909.
